For our first proper post, we are discussing the awesome book Front Desk!
This book shines a new light on immigrants and racisim. An amazing and emotional story with a funny slapstick side, adding some relief from the very moving and touching scenes. I highly recomend this book and I rate it a seven out of ten. This is an amazing read suitable for ages eight and up!
Story Spoiler Alert!
Mia, the main character of this book, helps her parents, poor immigrants from China, to run a low-paying motel. She struggles with finance, school and her dream of writing, but with enemies and parents who don't believe in you, things seem impossible. Can a few hidden immigrants, a shiney new pencil and a missing car help Mia achieve her dream of getting out of the poverty cycle!
